Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell signed a proclamation declaring today, May 31, 2024, to be David Keyes Day in Seattle. David will be retiring from the City of Seattle today after serving for over 27 years as a pioneering leader in the field of digital equity.

David has been my friend and colleague for 25 years. Part of me wants to say – “No no, you can’t retire, we need you!” but at the same time, I am so very happy for him.

David has done so much for the City of Seattle and for the field of digital equity.

In 2016, NDIA named David our very first Charles Benton Digital Equity Champion.

David was instrumental in the development of NDIA. He encouraged me, lent his expertise on SO MANY working groups and devoted hours to helping draft and rewrite and rewrite the definitions for digital equity and digital inclusion.

David is also responsible for originally guiding the content in Senator Murray’s Digital Equity Act!

I am very grateful for David and wish him all the awesomeness that comes with retirement.
